THE University of Hong Kong-Shenzhen Hospital (HKU-SZH) has started its Phase II expansion project, which will be completed in 2025.

Upon completion, a total of 1,000 new hospital beds will be available in the hospital, apart from multiple innovative technologies such as intelligent power consumption monitoring system, virtual reality and Internet of Things.

HKU-SZH’s Phase II expansion project is located in the northeast of Phase I, with a new construction area of about 206,300 square meters, including about 120,500 square meters above ground and 85,800 square meters underground. The renovated building area is about 3,450 square meters.

As a large hospital construction project, Phase II covers construction of a new inpatient building, science and education building, underground garage, equipment room, corridor and other auxiliary rooms, as well as underground passageways connecting the entrance and exit of the Metro station to the hospital.

Phase II will also include two new medical centers, which will set up independent lobbies, clinic areas and ward areas, and be equipped with special elevators.

A relatively closed-loop medical system will be formed between the two medical centers, which can meet the needs of hospital management to the maximum extent, according to HKU-SZH.

In another development, the Shenzhen Maternity and Child Healthcare Hospital said Saturday that the new inpatient building of its Fuqiang hospital area was put into use.

According to Yao Jilong, president of the Shenzhen Maternity and Child Healthcare Hospital, the building area of the hospital has increased by 70,000 square meters after the opening of the new inpatient building. The total number of hospital beds has doubled to 1,300 by adding 650 new beds.

Outpatient and emergency services are currently available in the new inpatient building, while other services will be launched within this year, said Yao.

The emergency department is located north of the lobby, where a large area of outdoor and indoor transition space is created to cater to the arrival of ambulances.
