He is best known for his song “Big Fish” from the animated movie “Big Fish & Begonia.” Last year he won first place for his performance of the song “Da La Beng Ba” in the show “Singer 2020,” imitating multiple voices, including that of a little girl and a man. After the song was released on Netease Cloud Music, it dominated the chart for several days, and the single was on the top of Chinese search engines.

Patriotic songs

The China National Traditional Orchestra will play a few Chinese patriotic songs. The orchestra’s director and principal pipa player Zhao Cong will also perform.

Crossover music

Chinese singers Yunggiema, Xiaocao, Perhat Khaliq and others will sing a night of crossover songs. Yunggiema, a singer from Tibet’s Menba minority, shot to fame in 2013 as a runner-up on “Chinese Idol.” Her beautiful voice and otherworldly melodies enchanted judges and viewers alike, bringing the traditional music of the Menba people to a mainstream audience.

Vocal artist Xiaocao will demonstrate “the irresistible and inimitable charm” of ancient Chinese melodies. Her songs are based on classical Chinese music with ancient Chinese verses as lyrics. Khaliq is a Uygur pop-rock composer and musician best known for his 2014 performances on the Chinese talent show “The Voice of China.”

Time: 7:30 p.m., May 27

Rock night

The Face, The Super VC, Hyper Slash and Peace & Wave, four bands from the Chinese singing show “The Big Band,” will present a night of rock music.

Time: 7:30 p.m., May 28

‘Buddha Passion’

Tan Dun’s “Buddha Passion” promises to take your breath away. This monumental work, sung in Chinese and Sanskrit, weaves stories of the ancient city of Dunhuang and its awe-inspiring Mogao Caves. Tan’s fascination with the manuscripts and the countless hours of research to translate and unearth “the ancient sounds of Dunhuang” culminate in this ambitious new work, weaving chants, stories, and sounds of Dunhuang into an oratorio of six individual short stories. Capturing the ancient narratives of the Buddha’s teachings and the timeless, universal concepts of love, forgiveness, sacrifice and salvation, Tan summarizes the stories portrayed on the walls of the Mogao Caves in an extraordinary and unique musical work.
