CHINESE actress Tong Liya and actor-director Chen Sicheng announced their divorce on social media Thursday morning, ending seven years of marriage. The announcement made a stir on Chinese social media since the date May 20, shortened as “520,” which sounds similar to “I love you” in Mandarin, has been celebrated as Chinese Valentine’s Day by young Chinese. The stars tagged each other at the same time on Weibo, with Tong saying “The world is worth it; look forward to the future. Thank you.” Also posting photos of Tong and their son, Chen wrote in his Weibo account, “The story in 2011-2020 comes to a conclusion. Both of you are the persons I love most and I will still protect you.” The stars met through Chen’s directorial debut, TV series “Beijing Love Story,” in 2012 and got married in 2014. They have a son born in 2016. In 2017, it was reported that the couple’s marriage turned rocky after Chen was spotted meeting up with two women at his hotel room in late night. Chen had since denied allegations of his wrongdoing and rumors of divorce. However, Tong remained silent about the scandal. Chen, 43, is best known for his mega-successful “Detective Chinatown” film series about a mismatched detective duo tackling baffling crimes in foreign destinations. The dancer-turned-actress Tong, 38, has been active both on the big and small screens, with acclaimed performances in the movie “How Long Will I Love U” and the TV series “The Ordinary World.” (SD News) |
