Xia Yuanjie szrbgracexia@126.com THE overall performance of SEG Plaza has met all criteria in terms of acceleration, tilt and subsidence, experts said yesterday. The announcement was made after days of real-time monitoring of the skyscraper, which wobbled on several occasions earlier this month. An expert panel doing thorough checks and closely monitoring the building said that the three indicators remained normal by noon yesterday. According to the monitoring results, the subsidence is between -0.38mm and 0.28mm, which means the building’s subsidence is stable. The tilt rate is between 0.000 percent and 0.030 percent, which is less than the allowable maximum tilt of 0.2 percent, while the acceleration rate is between 0.0000m/s² and 0.0086m/s², which is less than the allowable maximum acceleration of 0.25m/s², the experts said. Guangdong Party chief Li Xi, Guangdong Governor Ma Xing-rui and Shenzhen Party chief Wang Weizhong spoke with experts at a meeting in Futian on Saturday and made plans, according to a DT News report. The 356-meter-high building in Huaqiangbei, Futian District, is known for its electronics market and offices. Three episodes of shaking happened in the 21-year-old skyscraper every day from the afternoon of May 18 to Thursday afternoon. A preliminary investigation has indicated three factors: wind, temperature differences and the subway line under SEG Plaza, as possible combined causes of the building’s wobble, according to an inside report authorized by investigative experts. SEG Plaza does not have shock-absorbing dampers installed, which can strengthen the building’s resistance to winds and shaking, according to a China Daily report. The 79-floor skyscraper has been sealed off since Friday and will continue to be monitored until the investigation is completed. |
