Over 900 bachelor’s degree graduates from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (CUHK-SZ) finally got to express their farewells to campus life over the past four years, as a graduation ceremony was held last Saturday in CUHK-SZ in Longgang District.

Xu Yangsheng, president of CUHK-SZ, teaching staff and faculty representatives of CUHK-SZ, as well as over 1,500 bachelor’s degree graduates 2021 and their relatives attended the ceremony on Saturday.

The ceremony was also simultaneously held online, attracting over 700,000 viewers, according to CUHK-SZ.

Nobel Prize-winning economist Paul R. Milgrom, also a special-term professor of the Shenzhen Finance Institute of CUHK-SZ, delivered a speech via video link at the ceremony.

Milgrom urged students to seize important life opportunities. He said that sometimes we are just too scared to seize these opportunities so it is important to always stay awake and be decisive when the opportunities show up.

Milgrom also encouraged students to make full use of opportunities to make greater contributions and to become happy and successful individuals.

Life is an adventure. Don’t be afraid of changes that will lead you forward, said Milgrom.

Xu later said in a speech that life is full of uncertainties. Xu thus urged students to be brave and have the courage to face life that never stops changing.

Xu also stressed the role of instinct during his speech where he further explained that instinct comes from real practice. Xu hoped students to attend more activities and to experience different things.

Meanwhile, a total of 11 graduates won the title of excellent bachelor’s graduates 2021 and 10 parents were honored during the ceremony for their special contributions to the university.

Based on data collected as of early May, around 20 percent of the CUHK-SZ’s graduates this year decided to work while the remaining 80 percent of the graduates chose to further their studies.
