Bearbrick toy fans should check out the “When the Box Is Opened” exhibition at Issuing Gallery in Longgang District.

Bearbrick is a collectible toy designed and produced by the Japanese company MediCom Toy Inc. The name is derived from the fact that the figure is a cartoon-style representation of a bear and that it is a variation of MediCom’s Kubrick design that pays homage to film director Stanley Kubrick.

MediCom Toy was founded in 1996 to make limited edition figures and licensed products. It has long created plastic figurines of popular culture. Collaborations from leading brands from Chanel to Nike to artists like Kaws and Andy Warhol make the Bearbrick a collectors’ paradise. Most Bearbrick toys are comprised of hard plastic, but over time, different series have introduced different materials into the mix, including metal and wood.

MediCom has partnered with Daft Punk to produce its exclusive Bearbrick Daft Punk Discovery Tour version. The toys feature the world-renowned French electronic duo Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter. “Discovery” is the second album of the duo released in 2001. The French electronic duo decided to adopt their notorious robot costumes represented in the exclusive Bearbrick Daft Punk Discovery Tour set.
