ONE student was stuck in the traffic jam at Huanggang Flyover over Beihuan Boulevard in Futian District during the morning rush hour yesterday, the first day of the National College Entrance Examination (NCEE), and was rushed by a police motor relay to the examination venue at Hongling High School.

The commanding office for the Fuitan traffic police department received a call for help at 8:12 a.m. After receiving the instructions, Zhong Zhangxing, a motorcycle officer with the Meilin Unit of the Futian Brigade, rushed to the scene and drove the student to Hongling High School. The other police officer, Du Peng, was on duty directing traffic on Antuoshan No. 9 Road and led the way to the school after they met up. The trip took only 10 minutes.

A video clip showed Zhong cheering up and encouraging the student on the way, and with gratitude for the help he provided, the student bowed his head to the police officer before rushing to the examination venue.

In the other incident of a student in need of a motorcycle escort, police officers covered a distance of 24 kilometers to bring a student from Bagua No. 2 Road in Futian District to Nantou High School in Nanshan District, by passing Beihuan Boulevard, which had heavy traffic due to the morning rush hour.

At around 7:30 a.m., police received a phone call from a father whose car was caught in the traffic congestion in the Nanxin Footbridge area along Shennan Road. Upon hearing the report, a police officer went there to pick up the student at 7:36 a.m. and got him to OCT Middle School in six minutes.

On the first day of the NCEE, Shenzhen’s traffic police department mobolized 5,186 officers, arranged 126 tow vehicles and deployed 2,000 motorcycle officers on roads to ensure smooth traffic.

By 9 a.m. yesterday, police officers had already handled 14 emergencies relating to NCEE takers.

During the three-day examination period, 23,000 police forces will be on duty to ensure a smooth run for the exam.
