A: How was your weekend? B: Oh, very dull — I was just doing housework. I wish I could just do whatever I want — like going hiking or binge-watching my favorite TV series. A: You can still do these things, but housework is all part of “adulating.” Note: Adulting refers to “actions and behavior that are considered typical of adults, not children or young people.” The usage is based on a verbal extension of the word “adult” (i.e., “to adult” or “behave in the manner of an adult”). Millennials have been complaining a lot about “adulting” since 2008, and the term has caught on. There are even classes that teach elementary adult skills ranging from personal finance to how to properly fold laundry. |
