Sixty primary and middle school students in Guangdong Province were recently awarded the title of “Guangdong’s Most Beautiful Youths,” including nine from Shenzhen. Entering its sixth edition, the selection activity is jointly organized by the Guangdong Provincial Committee of the Communist Youth League, Students Union of Guangdong Province and Guangdong Provincial Working Committee of the Young Pioneers. This year’s edition attracted 148,000 students from more than 10,000 schools across the province. The selection is divided into six categories, namely, “Youth of Virtue,”“Youth of Innovation,”“Youth of Intelligence,”“Youth of Talent,”“Youth of Vigor” and “Youth of Perseverance.” Zeng Yingzhi, an eighth grader from Guiyuan Middle School in Luohu District, was the only student from Shenzhen to win the “Youth of Virtue” title for her dedication to volunteer work. In 2017 when Zeng was 10 years old, she officially registered as a volunteer of the city’s volunteer organization. Since then, Zeng has offered 1,000 or more accumulative service hours. In Shenzhen’s nursery and elders’ homes, Zeng often plays with kids and elderly people, helps them with feeding, plays the violin for them, and accompanies them to visit parks and to fly kites. Up to now, Zeng has been awarded more than 100 honorary certificates conferred by her school and other institutions. This year Zeng was awarded an honorary certificate of the Shenzhen Volunteer Service Foundation and the Outstanding Contribution Award of Shenzhen Volunteer Service Foundation. In 2018, she won the title of “Shenzhen Top 10 Young Pioneers” which was organized by the CPC Shenzhen Municipal Committee, Education Bureau and the Shenzhen Council for the Work of Caring for the Next Generation. Zeng’s grandparents are five-star volunteers in Guangdong Province. In 2010 when Zeng was 3 years old, her grandparents took her to help students in cities and counties like Heyuan, Shanwei, Lufeng, Zijin in Guangdong, Jinggangshan in Jiangxi Province and Hechi City in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
