Students from the SZMS Nanshan Innovation School recently have won top prizes at the American Computer Science League (ACSL) contests. Nine students from the school won the Individual Top Scores prizes, two teams claimed gold prizes, and other two teams were awarded silver prizes. According to Rao Yushan, instructor of the contestants from the school, the ACSL contests originated 40 years ago from Silicon Valley in the U.S. As one of the oldest programming contests for primary and middle school students, it has attracted contestants from all over the world. The contests have set up prizes for both individuals and teams. The Individual Top Scores prizes are offered to individuals in the top 20 percent of the individual contests, and the gold, silver and bronze prizes are offered to teams ranking respectively in the top 10, 25 and 35 percentiles among all teams.
