The exciting moments in my English speaking class
    2021-06-16  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Last Wednesday, I had an English speaking class. In class there were several exciting moments when I felt pleased.

First of all, to my joy, there was my English aphorism on the third slide of the teacher’s PPT, which was “Eventually, something that you stick to will make you the person you want to be.” Not only it is my idol Liu Ye’s aphorism, it also teaches me the importance of perseverance.

What’s more, my teacher taught us the strategy of “using visual imagery” to help us read a passage quickly and understand it in this class. It is to visualize what we hear or read, thinking of the situation and pictures in our minds while we are listening or reading. She taught us three methods.

Firstly, we ought to read the passage sentence by sentence silently. Secondly, imagining we are in the story, thinking as the writer, is a great method to help us understand the passage easily and quickly. Finally, it is the best to form images to describe the situation in the passage. I was surprised at this strategy for its convenience and efficiency.

In this way, the strategy enables us to understand an English passage efficiently so that we can succeed in improving our reading speed as well as our reading abilities to learn English well.

Moreover, my teacher asked us to create an ending for a passage that is about Tibetan antelopes living on the plains of Tibet.

By thinking of pictures of protecting animals, I had an idea for my ending. Then, I looked up my accumulated English words in my notebook and used some advanced words to finish the ending.

After that, my teacher guided me to check my grammar mistakes. Eventually, I completed the task. I wrote, “Eventually, the government founded natural reserves to protect wild animals, including the Tibetan antelopes. As a result, human beings reduced their harm to wild animals. Then, people and wild animals lived in the world peacefully.”

To my surprise, my teacher told me that it is an awesome ending because my ending was a perfect match with the ending of the passage — only when we learn to exist in harmony with nature can we stop being a threat to wildlife and to our planet.
