Medical workers rescue girl who choked on zongzi
    2021-06-18  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A 3-YEAR-OLD girl, who choked on zongzi, was successfully rescued by nucleic acid test medics in Longgang District on Monday night, Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported.

During Dragon Boat Festival, a medical team from Shenzhen Samii Medical Center (SSMC), also known as Shenzhen No. 4 People’s Hospital, still carried out COVID-19 testing in Wuhe Community, Longgang District.

Around 7:45 p.m., a middle-aged man holding a little girl in his arms rushed to the test site, yelling “Please save my daughter!”

Wang Xinyuan, chief physician with the Emergency Department of SSMC, immediately ran to the father and daughter. Following Wang, Huang Qilong, an ICU nurse, and Liu Tigong, a Department of Anesthesiology doctor, took off their protective suits quickly and dashed to offer first-aid treatment.

The young girl was found pale and weak. Her father tried to shake her to wake her up.

When asked what the child had eaten at night, the upset father said: “She had supper, jelly and, oh, zongzi!”

The veteran physician identified that the child choked on zongzi. Huang held the kid and Liu picked up a first-aid kit. They examined her trachea and removed the foreign objects inside: half-cocked rice and pieces of meat.

The little girl suddenly burst into tears and everyone there felt relieved.

An ambulance sent the child to the Longhua District People’s Hospital. The girl is in a stable condition now.  (Xia Yuanjie)
