SZ to introduce nose print tech for dog registration
    2021-06-18  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

PET dogs in Shenzhen not suitable for microchipping will be registered through dog nose print recognition technology, according to information released by the city’s urban administration bureau.

The technology is still under development and will be deployed on a trial basis, according to Shenzhen Economic Daily.

It was reported that like human fingerprints, every pet has its own unique nose print.

A dog owner only needs to take three pictures of the dog’s face and upload them to the cloud system. After the feature extraction, the dog’s unique identifying nose print is generated and recorded to the cloud database.

Equipped with deep learning algorithm and artificial intelligence, the system can accurately detect the dog’s nose print from pictures and match out the results.

By April 30, 2021, a total of 145,702 dogs registered in the city’s dog management system had been microchipped.

In the future, Shenzhen will continue to promote microchips for dogs and assist owners with dog nose print recognition to accurately record all dogs in the city and offer better services based on the intelligent management.

So far, Shenzhen has built a unified dog management platform, in which data like dog records, electronic dog licenses, stray dog management and vaccine status was stored.

The platform supplies dynamic track records of a dog’s life, ranging from its birth, registration and death. Meanwhile, residents can register their dogs, put up lost dog ads, adopt dogs and learn dog-raising tips on the platform.
