Nature reserve staffers rescue orphan macaque
    2021-06-23  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

AN orphan baby macaque is now in sound physical condition after being rescued by staff from the Guangdong Neilingding Futian National Nature Reserve Administration on May 31, Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported.

At about 11 a.m. May 31, constant “chi-chi” sounds from the back of a management station of the reserve distracted the staffers from their work. They checked the area and found a little macaque was sitting on the floor without its mother’s company. After four hours’ observation, the staffers didn’t see its mother show up. So they took the baby to the station, gave it a wash, fed it with goat milk powder and disinfected the wounds for the monkey.

Unfortunately, the next day, one of the staffers discovered a female macaque’s body near the station. The female macaque was believed to be the baby’s mother.

Under the guidance of the city’s wild animal protection center, the station rescued and fed the baby monkey. It has grown to 426 grams from 300 grams in 22 days and almost recovered from scratches and swollen eyes and nose.

Once the baby macaque’s physical condition allows, the staffers will send it back to the nature. (Chen Siqi)
