Tokyo marks one month to Olympics with launch of mobile app
    2021-06-24  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

WITH one month to go until the opening of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, the organizing committee yesterday announced the launch of the Games’ official mobile app.

The Tokyo 2020 official app is the fan’s personal guide and companion to the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Not only does it gather all essential Games information in one place — including event results, competition schedule, medals table, introductions to sports and venues, and more news and updates — it can also be customized to each fan’s preferences by selecting favorite sports and teams in order to receive personalized reminders and notifications.

The journey to this year’s Games has involved a long list of complications that sometimes threatened to make them the first modern Olympics canceled in peacetime.

The first Olympic teams are already in Japan, along with key officials and some overseas media.

“Our preparation is in the very final stretch,” Tokyo spokesman Masa Takaya told Xinhua in an interview at his Harumi office building. “Tokyo 2020 is absolutely focused on delivering the Games this summer starting July 23.”

“All parties are fully focused on delivering the Games,” he emphasized. What makes him especially confident is that the publication of the playbooks, which outlined all the rules and regulations that have to be followed by all the athletes, officials and media personnel.

“We are now asking all the participants to follow these rules and regulations so that we should be able to deliver a safe and secure Games.”

Takaya described the past year after the Games had been postponed as a “long journey,” but the idea of “cancellation” has never crossed his mind despite all the rumors and reports from home and overseas. “I never thought that way,” he said.

Public opinion polls conducted every month by different Japanese media outlets have shown declining support of the Games from the Japanese people, Takaya said it was because many people have not been shown a “full picture” of the way how the Games will be held.(SD-Xinhua)
