SURVEILLANCE footage showed that a herd of wild swine has kept coming into Fairy Lake Botanical Garden in Luohu District for a week, Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported. The footage showed that seven wild swine foraged in the Chinese rose garden Wednesday evening and eight wild swine strolled along Ziwei Road early Friday. Staff members said that the wild swine have been spotted almost every day for nearly a week. They turned up frequently with an expanded range of activities and more family members. It was reported that wild swine first appeared in 2020 when the garden underwent a two-month lockdown against the pandemic. Those wild swine even ate the cycads in the garden. When lockdowns were lifted, more visitors to the botanical garden inhibited the wild swine’s activities. They then switched their activities to the night. Fairy Lake Botanical Garden turned into a paradise for wild swine with its protected ecological environment rich with various species. Moreover, the last two months were the breeding season for them and the young ones join their parents in search of food. At present, the garden has used loud horns and flashlights to shoo the wild swine and it has teamed up with Shenzhen’s wildlife protection department to take precautions. Wildlife conservationists suggested that visitors keep away from wild swine without provocation, hide behind a tough obstacle or climb to a high place to avoid being attacked, and do not feed them.
