Recently many schools of higher learning have been redesigning their acceptance letters to entice students to choose their schools over others. Today’s acceptance letters from most universities of science and engineering focus on sharing their scientific spirit through their letters.

For example, the letter from the Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics includes the rocket badge and descriptions of its continued exploration and outstanding contribution to China’s space industry.

Some universities emphasize their humanism. Nankai University uses purses with lotuses to attract students, while Xiamen University includes excerpts from the speech of its founder, Chen Jiageng, in which he advocates his school-running principle.

An acceptance letter can convey the spirit and values of a university and reflect its history and future. It is a spiritual delivery opportunity universities have to design and send an exquisite acceptance letter to students.

Such letters create a new challenge for the universities sending them: The school’s characteristics featured in the letters raises the bar of expectations by the students. This means that universities have to improve their teaching level and management details to ensure they can meet those expectations described in those exquisite acceptance letters. The spirit hidden behind those acceptance letters can come into effect only if the schools attain advanced achievements in education and academics.

On the one hand, particular emphasis should be put on strengthening teachers’ moral and academic regulation. On the other hand, universities should create a good academic atmosphere for students to directly touch the soul and property of a university in their daily life.
