    2021-07-13  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A TOTAL of 10 Guangdong universities, including two Shenzhen universities — Shenzhen University (SZU) and the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) — have been listed in the national top 100 of Essential Science Indicators (ESI) Rankings recently released by Clarivate, a data-analysis firm.

The other eight universities are Sun Yat-sen University (7th), South China University of Technology (18th), Southern Medical University (53rd), Jinan University (54th), Guangzhou Medical University (80th), South China Normal University (88th), South China Agricultural University (90th) and Guangdong University of Technology (100th).

SZU rose by 24 places to 683rd globally and 48th nationally while SUSTech climbed 37 places to 1,151st globally and 94th nationally.

Meanwhile, 116 disciplines of 18 universities in Guangdong are listed in the global top 1 percent, ranking fourth in China.

Plant and Animal Science in South China Agricultural University was listed among the world’s top 0.1 percent disciplines, the university’s first discipline to have done so. Agricultural Science in Guangdong Medical University and General Social Science in Guangzhou University are among the top 1 percent globally.

The University of Chinese Academy of Sciences is China’s highest-ranked university on the list, with a global ranking of 46. Tsinghua University and Peking University follow it with respective global rankings of 64 and 73.

ESI reviews all SCIE articles published in over 12,000 academic journals as well as papers and cited data published by SSCI within a decade, which assists in its evaluation of the scientific research levels of colleges.
