A TOTAL of 146 new schools including 74 primary and secondary schools and 72 kindergartens will be put into use in Shenzhen this year, providing some 130,000 additional school places, according to information released at a meeting held by the city’s education authority. The total investment for these schools is nearly 23.3 billion yuan (US$3.6 billion), with this year’s investment reaching roughly 7.68 billion yuan. As of the end of June, Shenzhen had started construction of 43 primary and secondary schools and 56 kindergartens. Shenzhen will complete building projects of nine senior middle schools this year, 18 in 2022 and seven in 2023. Main structures of the nine new senior middle schools have been completed. Among the 18 new high schools scheduled to be built in 2022, construction projects of 15 schools are in process. Meanwhile, construction has started for the other three high schools that are set to be finished in 2023. It is also said that the construction of Shenzhen’s second special education school has started. Moreover, Shenzhen Polytechnic’s campus in the Shenshan Special Cooperation Zone is scheduled to begin construction in January 2023 and to be completed in December 2025. (Wang Jingli) |
