‘The Age of Awakening’ helps HKers understand CPC
    2021-07-16  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

“THE Age of Awakening,” a 2021 hit drama from the Chinese mainland, has received positive reviews in Hong Kong since it was aired there July 12.

The 43-episode, award-winning series shows how Chinese pioneering intellectuals and young people in the early 1900s strove to save the nation and the bumpy road they faced in the lead-up to the establishment of the Communist Party of China (CPC). It was China’s most popular TV show in the first half of this year, with a rating of 9.3 out of 10 based on more than 300,000 reviews thanks to its objective story-telling, vivid characterization and impressive performances, according to a recent report by the Chinese reviewing platform Douban.

It is being screened on i-Cable’s entertainment channel at 8:30 p.m. on weekdays in Hong Kong. Audience members on the Chinese mainland can watch the series on the iQiyi and Youku apps.

According to Global Times, young Hong Kong residents said that they had heard that the TV series drew many compliments on the Chinese mainland, and they long to watch it to learn more about the CPC and the motherland’s history.

“I have watched the trailer of the series,” said Vincent Poon, chairman of the Committee of Professional Services of the Y. Elites Association. “As a young person in Hong Kong, I have the honor to look back at history from the TV series, which lets us know the truth of history and allows us to learn from history.” Poon noted that the series fully proves that the leadership of the CPC is the greatest strength of socialism with Chinese characteristics.

Derek Tsang, another young Hong Kong man, said that he will recommend the series to friends and relatives. He watched some scenes on social media platforms and thought that the work was produced carefully, and it could take audience members back to those chaotic times. “Let us review history more clearly in the indicated time sequence, and realize that a stable society is hard won,” Tsang noted.

Jacky Ko, who runs a multimedia production studio in Hong Kong, had also heard of the series before and said although he is busy working, he will watch the series.

“I think the series can help Hong Kong viewers, especially young people, learn from the patriotic youth who lived 100 years ago. They can not only understand the history of the country’s revival, but also learn to work for China’s self-improvement, as well as building a better Hong Kong through the work,” Ko said.(SD-Agencies)
