City works out action plans to further improve traffic
    2021-07-21  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

SHENZHEN will implement 523 projects and 26 action plans to further improve its traffic situation, according to a work plan released by the municipal transport bureau Monday.

The city will undertake micro renovations briefly and quickly in 78 locations which are vulnerable to traffic congestion and optimize 85 bus routes including opening night buses between Shenzhen Hi-Tech Industrial Park in Nanshan District and the Xixiang-Pingzhou area in Bao’an District, and between Futian Checkpoint and Bantian in Longgang District.

Intelligent systems will be installed on all the city’s subway lines to allow passengers to get real-time updates on how crowded a carriage is.

Vehicle speed on city roads during the peak hours was 25.6 kilometers per hour in 2020. This year, the city will complete 63 micro-renovation projects and improve the traffic at 104 easily congested areas such as Sungang Road East and Liuyue Road by narrowing the lanes or expanding the roads. Through new traffic organization measures like tidal lanes, police will improve the situation in 20 places such as Dongmen, Nanshan CBD and Xuexiang area this year.

Police will implement parking reservations and drop-and-go measures on roads around five schools and nine hospitals. They will also develop traffic improvement measures on the roads around Zhongshan Park, Nantou Park and Shenzhen Museum.

In 2021, the city will build, renovate or expand nonmotor vehicle lanes extending 300 kilometers and push forward construction of slow traffic systems in seven areas including Xinzhou and Renminnan areas.
