Ugandan weightlifter

A UGANDAN weightlifter has been found four days after he disappeared from an Olympic training camp in Japan leaving a note saying he wanted to find work, police said Tuesday.

Julius Ssekitoleko was found in Mie Prefecture.

Police said he had traveled to Nagoya in central Japan and then to nearby Gifu prefecture, before moving south to Mie.

Australian suspended

AUSTRALIAN equestrian rider Jamie Kermond was suspended from competing in Tokyo Olympic Games yesterday for testing positive for cocaine under the Australian National Anti-Doping Policy 2021.

Equestrian Australia confirmed in a statement that the mandatory provisional suspension notice asserted Kermond returned a positive A-sample for a metabolite of cocaine following a test conducted by Sport Integrity Australia on June 26.

Athlete quits Games

A CHILEAN taekwondo competitor has become the first athlete to withdraw from the Tokyo Olympics after testing positive for COVID-19.

Fernanda Aguirre, 21, had traveled to Japan from Uzbekistan, but tested positive on arrival.

There have been 79 Games-related coronavirus cases so far at the Olympics.
