More quality students attracted by SZ colleges
    2021-07-23  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

MANY universities in Shenzhen have seen an increase in the size and quality of their student bodies during this year’s college admission period, Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported.

At present, the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) has finished its admission work. SUSTech has admitted a total of 1,160 fresh undergraduates from 23 provinces across the country. It is said that this year, SUSTech has attracted more students whose college entrance exam (gaokao) results are among the top 1,000 in their respective provinces.

Another university, Harbin Institute of Technology, Shenzhen has announced its lowest admission score (650) for Guangdong gaokao takers who chose the physics subject in the test, which is reportedly 21 points higher than the admission threshold of Guangzhou’s Sun Yat-sen University.

This year, Shenzhen Technology University (SZTU) has been among the top 10 universities in Guangdong in terms of the lowest admission scores for science students, hitting a new record, said the Daily report.

SZTU plans to enroll 2,476 gaokao takers this year, up 84.2 percent compared to last year.

Some 291,000 gaokao takers in Guangdong Province have been admitted by universities in the country. The overall college admission work is scheduled to be concluded Saturday, said the report.

Starting this year, all students in Guangdong can submit parallel applications to 45 universities simultaneously.
