Container throughput at SZ Port increases 21.22%
    2021-07-26  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

THE container throughput at Shenzhen Port increased by 21.22 percent year on year from the start of this year to Tuesday, signaling Shenzhen’s strong foreign trade performance, Shenzhen Economic Daily reported Saturday, quoting the city’s transport bureau officials.

The figure was also 10.33 percent higher than the same period in 2019.

Shenzhen Port’s container throughput has maintained growth momentum since Yantian port, which is part of Shenzhen Port, fully resumed its operational capacity June 24, repeatedly surpassing the daily average container throughput recorded in the same period last year. On July 19, Yantian port handled 44,500 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) of containers, which was 121.6 percent of the daily average container throughput for 2020.

Shenzhen adopted stringent measures to fight against COVID-19 and resume Yantian port’s operation after sporadic infection cases were reported in the port area May 21.

The high-risk port staffers were put under centralized management and the medium- and low-risk ones were provided with point-to-point transport. The efforts successfully controlled the sources of infection and cut off the channels of transmission. Since June 5, no new cases have been reported in the Yantian port area, and the port has regained the full operation capacity. (Xia Yuanjie)
