‘Under Siege’

Famous Chinese dancer and choreographer Yang Liping is bringing her show “Under Siege” this weekend. As an experimental stage artwork, “Under Siege” is a fusion of contemporary dance, martial arts, Chinese folk music, Beijing opera, paper-cutting and installation art. It depicts a war between two kingdoms 2,200 years ago that changed the course of Chinese history.

Time: 7:30 p.m., July 31-Aug. 1 (Aug. 1 also at 2:30 p.m.)

Ballet video

The video of ballet “The Lady of the Camellias” performed by Svetlana Zakharova and Edvin Revazov will be shown. Choreographer John Neumeier adapts Alexandre Dumas fils’ timeless novel for the stage with great sensitivity and emotional depth in his work of rare beauty.

Hanggai Band

Chinese folk/rock band Hanggai Band will perform their greatest hits and new songs from its acclaimed “Big Band Brass” album. The Inner Mongolian folk music group specializes in a blend of folk music and modern styles such as punk rock.

Michelangelo replicas

Shenzheners can get a close look at reproductions of Michelangelo’s renowned frescos in the Vatican’s Sistine Chapel at an exhibition (98 yuan) running until Oct. 15. The exhibition features full-size replicas of the Renaissance artist’s works at the Sistine Chapel: “Genesis” and “The Last Judgment.”
