A stranded turtle was saved out of a beach in the Shenshan Special Cooperation Zone on Friday. The 60-centimeter-long and 45-centimeter-wide turtle, confirmed as a green sea turtle, an animal under level-1 State protection, was found sick and later transferred to the rescue base of Shenzhen Institute of Guangdong Ocean University. Green sea turtles live in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Fujian and Guangdong provinces, but reproduction sites for the endangered turtles were only recorded in western Fujian and coastal areas and islands in eastern Guangdong. It was the first time to spot a green sea turtle in the Shenshan sea area in the past 20 years. (Inset) A file photo of a green sea turtle. Zhou Daohui, Wu Jinpei |
