AMANDA KNOX is claiming the film “Stillwater” is profiting off her life and her struggle for a wrongful murder conviction.

“Stillwater” stars Matt Damon as a father who flies to France to help his estranged daughter, Allison, played by Abigail Breslin, who has been convicted and imprisoned for murdering her girlfriend in Marseille, in a case that has generated lurid headlines. Knox is never named on screen, but in interviews the filmmakers have noted her sensational case was an initial jumping off point for the script.

Knox and her former boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito were convicted and acquitted in 2015 in an Italian court for the 2007 killing of Knox’s roommate, Meredith Kercher, in Perugia, Italy, where Knox was a student. Another man is serving a 16-year sentence for the murder.

“Stillwater” director Tom McCarthy said Knox’s case inspired the storyline at the Cannes Film Festival last month.

In tweets and an essay on the site Medium, Knox called out various publications and McCarthy for using her name to promote the movie. She wrote that his “fictionalized version of me is just the tabloid conspiracy guiltier version of me.”

“Does my name belong to me? Does my face? What about my life? My story? Why is my name used to refer to events I had no hand in? I return to these questions because others continue to profit off my name, face, and story without my consent,” she wrote.

Knox said that she “would love nothing more than for people to refer to the events in Perugia as ‘The Murder of Meredith Kercher by Rudy Guede,’ which would place me as the peripheral figure I should have been, the innocent roommate.”

“I want to pause right here on that phrase: ‘the Amanda Knox saga.’ What does that refer to? Does it refer to anything I did? No. It refers to the events that resulted from the murder of Meredith Kercher by a burglar named Rudy Guede,” she said.

Knox also invited McCarthy and Damon to join her on her podcast “Labyrinths” to discuss the events in the film.

“By fictionalizing away my innocence, my total lack of involvement, by erasing the role of the authorities in my wrongful conviction, McCarthy reinforces an image of me as a guilty and untrustworthy person,” Knox said of a twist ending in the movie.

“I have not been allowed to return to the relative anonymity I had before Perugia,” Knox said. “My only option is to sit idly by while others continue to distort my character, or fight to restore my good reputation that was wrongfully destroyed.” Knox, whose case was a media sensation in Italy, spent four years in an Italian prison before being fully exonerated. The film opened Friday.
