    2021-08-04  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Six Chinese students won gold medals at the 62nd International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), including two students from Shenzhen Middle School, Peng Yebo and Feng Chenxu. An experience-sharing forum was held on July 27 at Shenzhen Middle School.

“It was a terrific achievement for students at Shenzhen Middle school to win five International Olympiad gold medals since 2018,” Zhu Huawei, principal of the school, introduced in the forum. He stated that conforming to the guiding concept of teaching students in accordance with their aptitude is crucial to cultivate competent innovative talents.

Feng said that his attentiveness and diligence played an important role in winning the gold medal of IMO. “It is more important to know how to do than to do exercises blindly,” he mentioned. He has viewed figuring out the reasoning in questions as the key method to learn math well. According to Feng, relaxation also matters in behaving well in competitions.

Wang Kun, the school’s math competition coach, expressed gratitude for the support of the Shenzhen Municipal Government and Shenzhen Education Bureau. He said that the 38th National Mathematical Olympiad will be held at Shenzhen Middle School for the first time next year.
