Procrastinator

Promise Yang, G10, RDF International School

I have been very busy these days. I felt that I had countless tasks to finish, such as doing professional assignments, taking TOEFL classes, preparing for exams, watching movies, working on a team, etc. As a procrastinator, I am easily distracted by other things.

Though I get up much earlier and play much less than before in order to finish the tasks on my list, the sense of urgency becomes more and more apparent. My problem is that if no one supervises me, I’ll slip back into my original shape and avoid the task in question. Sometimes, I am even in a bad mood and feel irritable. When things are piling up, I feel powerless and tend to escape.

Why procrastinate? I keep asking myself. My time always slips away by accident. I rarely make conscious use of my scattered time, and I do things at the time I think they should be done. Moreover, I always procrastinate the task until the last minute by watching videos, or walking around the room with no purpose in mind. There are countless examples of how time seemed to go by as if I was busy, but I didn’t actually accomplish what I had to do. I sometimes resent my inability to change over the years.

Through years of fighting with my procrastination, I find that the main reason is my internal resistance to the certain task. Now, I am working to find out the beneficial outcome of completing the task, which motivates me to maintain discipline and make the most out of each day. I have confidence that I will become a doer in the near future.
