Driverless bus to run this month in Lianhua Hill Park
    2021-08-05  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

AN autonomous bus equipped with 5G technologies will be put into use in Lianhua Hill Park this month after tests, sources from the Lianhua Hill Park management center said Tuesday.

The park’s management center is now designating a bus route and stops for the autonomous bus which will run from the park commemorating the 30th anniversary of China’s reform and opening up to the visitors’ center, according to Zou Zhuohui, deputy chief of the park management center.

The level-4 autonomous bus manufactured by Zonson Smart Auto Co. Ltd. is a fully autonomous vehicle that will be used in Shenzhen parks for the first time. Running on a preset route, the bus will travel within 20 kilometers per hour. It can detect the surrounding environment with sensors, slow down when necessary and stop when encountering collision risks. With the help of 5G technologies and high-precision positioning system, the bus can broadcast and slow down when approaching bus stops. With a discrepancy within 20 centimeters for pulling over, the bus can automatically open its door to welcome passengers on board before closing the door and moving on to the next stop on the route.

Along the way, a staff member responsible for safety will be on board to supervise the operation of the bus, which has an internal communication system to introduce the park to passengers along the way. (Han Ximin)
