Themed “Innovate Education Empower Future,” the launching ceremony of Merchiston Academy Songshan Lake (MAS) was recently held at the Hyatt Regency Dongguan. The school will begin enrolling students this autumn.

Those attending the ceremony included Dr. Zhang Yue, principal of MAS, Sonia Buchan, director of Marketing Admissions and Communication of Merchiston International School (MIS), Simon Smith, vice principal of pastoral care of MAS, and representatives of the academic team as well as students and parents.

MAS is the second overseas campus of Manchester Castle School in Edinburgh, which is a top private school with 188 years of history in the U.K. MAS aims to build a first-class international academy in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA). Students of MAS can share various resources such as courses and activities and in the futurehave international exchanges with the Edinburgh campus and MIS.

Characterized by internationalization (I18N), digitalization as well as an innovative educational concept, MAS also views pastoral care and comprehensive development of the students as core principles. Also, students of MAS don’t need to travel to the U.K. or Hong Kong to take the international examinations as the academy has been licensed to hold the GCE, International GCSE and International A-Level examinations.

In addition, the Lighting Education Fund under Lighting Education, which is the investor of MAS, will contribute a total of 10 million yuan (US$1.5 million) to provide scholarship and subsidies support for outstanding students.

Lighting Education is also the investor of MIS, Shenzhen Manchester International Education Co. Ltd., and the Greater Bay Area Institute of Education.
