An unforgettable performing experience
    2021-08-11  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Cu Lingxiao, He Haoxuan, Class 2, Senior 2, Shenzhen Xin’an Middle School Instructed by Zhu Wenjuan

We performed the classic drama, “Romeo and Juliet” at the English Talent Show, a demonstration of the research project hosted by Zhu Wenjuan that consisted of singing, rap, dubbing, drama, opera and comedy.

We selected it because it is the most touching plot in which Romeo and Juliet die together, which not only reflects the lofty pursuit of love but also shows the two young people are willing to sacrifice themselves to adjust the contradictions of the two families. To be honest, we met many problems during the preparation. The first was that we had to improve our script because there were plenty of Chinglish words we had downloaded from the internet. With the encouragement of Zhu, we arranged tasks for each member and Zhu helped with the final modifications. After a month of rehearsing, it turned out to be a success. We were awarded the second prize.

As the playwright of the drama, it was thrilling yet exhausting. “I wrote two versions of the script of the drama which included countless dialogues by myself. I spent multiple hours on this task, a couple of weeks. And I do believe that I have greatly improved my English writing skills. It is an unforgettable and ineffaceable experience,” said one performer He Haoxuan.
