A NEW parking lot, Parking Lot 4 (P4) at Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport, was partially put into use recently, offering 561 spots for app-based cabs, the airport said Saturday.

Upon full operation, P4 will offer about 1,833 spots for app-based cabs, public buses and private cars.

P4 is located at the intersection of Linghang Road 4 and Konggang Road 2, which is 2.5 kilometers away from Terminal 3 (T3). The airport will provide free shuttle bus services from P4 to T3.

App-based cabs can park for free for the first 30 minutes and will be charged 2 yuan (US$0.31) an hour after. After 1.5 hours, the fee will be 1 yuan per hour. The cabs will be charged 1.5 yuan per hour after it has parked for 24 hours. The maximum fee for the first full-day parking is 25 yuan, 30 yuan per day for two-day parking, and 36 yuan per day for parking of three days and over.

Around 8,000 app-based cabs are seen at the Shenzhen airport a day, and during the trial period, P4 has seen half of the cabs per day carrying passengers leaving the airport.

To meet app-based cab drivers’ demands, the new parking lot has installed electricity charging stands, a dining hall, a convenience store and toilets. Sections for private cars and public buses will open around the National Day holiday.

P1, P2 and P3, the airport’s near-end parking lots, which are close to the Ground Transportation Center, will have their fee standards appropriately increased for cars parked there for more than two hours, according to a draft released by the Shenzhen Municipal Development and Reform Commission.

The draft proposed two plans for the fee standards. In Plan A, the first hour parking rate will remain unchanged at 10 yuan, with succeeding 30-minute charges of 1 yuan between one and two hours, 2 yuan for two and seven hours, 3 yuan for seven and 24 hours, and 5 yuan for over 24 hours. In Plan B, charges for the first two hours will be the same as Plan A. However, the succeeding 30-minute parking charges will be higher than Plan A with 3 yuan for two to seven hours, 4 yuan for seven to 24 hours, and 6 yuan for over 24 hours.

The commission estimated that based on 2019 statistics, the new plan will not affect 88 percent of the vehicles parked at the near-end spots because average parking time in the area is usually under two hours.
