BEIJING Guoan announced Monday that another foreign player, Jonathan Viera, known as the “Green Elf,” will officially bid farewell to the club. The Spaniard has played for the team for three and a half years, making 88 appearances, scoring 30 goals and 30 assists. Viera won the FA Cup and had the best record in the AFC Champions League in the club history. Before Viera left the team, team captain Renato Augusto, as well as Fernando Lucas Martins of Brazil and Kim Min-jae of South Korea, also terminated their partnership with the club due to the pandemic, the salary cap, or family issues. Meanwhile, Spanish second-tier side UD Las Palmas announced Monday the signing of Viera, who returns to the Canarian club after terminating his contract with Guoan. “Viera returns home and will be presented to the media next Friday, at 6 p.m., in the press room of Gran Canaria, and to the yellow fans in the runup to the match that UD Las Palmas will play that same day against the SD Huesca, at the Gran Canaria Stadium,” the Canarian club announced in a statement. Viera, 31, has signed a contract for the next four seasons, with an option for a fifth, as detailed by UD Las Palmas, his training club and where he has already played during several stages at the highest level.
