Hyun Ju Han Global Economic News SAMSUNG Electro-Mechanics has resumed selling of its Wi-Fi module business, which had been canceled once before. “The company is in the process of selling Wi-Fi module business with potential buyers,” said an official from Samsung Electro-Mechanics on Monday. “The business is being operated normally and nothing has been confirmed.” The businesses for sale are reportedly the Wi-Fi module business division at Samsung Electro-Mechanics Suwon office and the Wi-Fi module business division at its Thai subsidiary. Samsung Electro-Mechanics signed a contract with Wits, a subsidiary of Korean mid-sized company Chemtronics, to sell its Wi-Fi module business at 105.5 billion won (US$90 million) in January this year. However, the sale foundered in May as Wits canceled the contract. At that time, Wits terminated the contract due to rapid changes in the Wi-Fi module business market and the possibility of worsening profitability. Samsung Electro-Mechanics is planning to end non-core businesses through reorganization of the business structure. |
