Shekou International School opens Net Valley campus

SHEKOU International School (SIS) in Nanshan District has kicked off its new school year by welcoming over 1,000 students to study on its Jingshan and brand-new Net Valley campuses recently.

The school’s secondary students have bid farewell to the old Bayside campus at Coastal Rose Garden Phase II housing complex in Shekou Subdistrict and have moved to its new campus at Building C of Wanliang Building in the Shekou Net Valley area in Zhaoshang Subdistrict.

“SIS has been looking for a new campus site for about four years to cater for its continued growth,” said Gigi Wu, a staffer at SIS, during a campus tour with Shenzhen Daily yesterday.

According to the school, the new campus provides better space for school activities and at the same time is close to its primary campus in Jingshan Villas, the students’ homes and the local community.

The Net Valley campus is nearly two times bigger than the previous Bayside campus.

One of the highlights at the design workshop is an industrial laser printer, which is used as a teaching tool for the school’s Grade 9 and 10 students, according to design teacher Tyler Wells. Students can draw a script on their laptops and print them out using the machine. “They can even print a chair out on the machine and bring it home,” said Wells.

The supporting facilities have also been upgraded to better complement SIS’s teaching activities. Teachers and students can customize the size of their learning space through opening or closing the partitions between classrooms, which enables them to teach and learn in a more flexible way.

According to the teachers, it was pleasing to see students adapt themselves well to life at the new campus. “I felt more excitement from the students rather than nervousness and trepidation after coming to the new campus,” said Hannah Codling, a Grade 6 mathematics teacher.
