Robot workshop well received

The 2021 Robot maker workshop, recently hosted by the Bao’an Science and Technology Association and organized by the Bao’an Foreign Languages Association, was well received among the young in the district.

At the event, teenagers learned knowledge about robots and tried to build different types of robots on their own, which cultivated their logical thinking skills, collaborative skills and hands-on skills.

This is the second year for the two associations to hold such an event. Tully B. Gehan and Andrew J. Lashenske Jr. from the United States and Nicolas Deladerriere from France are among experienced robot makers who served as tutors at the event. A few expat kids were at the event this year.

The monthlong event was divided into four phases, during which four types of robots were built.

The four types of robots included the robot arm featuring strong applications of basic principles, the painting robot, the walking robot, and the anti-epidemic hat.

The event was popular among teenagers and parents. Some teachers who recommended students to participate in the event last year contacted the association to participate again, as they found it very meaningful.

Teenagers not only learned knowledge about robots, but also enhanced their hands-on skills and practiced their oral English.

According to an official with the Bao’an Science and Technology Association, Bao’an has made great strides on science popularization in recent years and has gradually set up some high-quality projects.

The association will continue its efforts to promote science education, especially among teenagers, to contribute to the construction of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area, and the building of Shenzhen into a pilot demonstration area of socialism with Chinese characteristics.
