Language violence
    2021-09-08  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Snoopy Gu, G9, RDF International School

With the rapid development of the world, our lives have changed a lot. These changes are not only in the technical aspects, but also in the thinking of the whole human race. In the modern world, the changes of human thought cause many problems, especially for teenagers whose thinking isn’t mature. They can be easily influenced. Even a schoolmate’s small action can affect their thinking. Most of them will imitate their schoolmate’s behaviors, and sometimes those behaviors are wrong, nasty, and even illegal.

Teenagers between 13 and 15 years old easily have conflicts due to teenage brain development. In this stage, their brains grow and change, and they are sensitive. In school, language violence is usually the main factor that causes physical conflicts.

Language violence appears when someone uses threatening or negative words to make someone else unhappy or even angry. Language violence even can lead to injury. I have personally witnessed how verbal conflict ended up in physical conflict. Last year, two 15-year-old boys had an argument after school. One of them was pretty angry and started to say some rude words, and the other talked back. Both of them became angrier and angrier. In the end, one boy picked up a large stone on ground and hit the other’s head. As a result, both boys ended up in hospital. The consequence was terrible. Sometimes, language violence can be threatening words or an insulting epithet. How can students deal with language violence?

In my opinion, a rational solution to language violence is to talk to someone who has the ability to deal with the situation, such as teachers, parents or even adult siblings. The last thing one should do is to use violence against violence, because that would make one a perpetrator as well. Additionally, using the rude way to solve conflicts will destroy your study, reputation, and anything else that is important to you.

Do not neglect the language of bullying that happens near you. It may not have a direct injury to you. But if we don’t control it, the indirect effect could be enormous.
