Quirky ‘Dragon House’ up for sale
    2021-09-09  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A UNIQUE property aptly dubbed “Dragon House” has hit the market — and it has some pretty quirky features.

The five-bedroom house in the city of Saginaw in Minnesota, the U.S., set over 16.45 acres (6.58 hectares), has been listed by Century 21 Signature Realty for US$539,999.

While the inside is relatively unassuming, the exterior was carefully crafted to give off an incredible “dragon” effect with its curved roof, large tower to one side and the “tail” to the other.

Thanks to the motorized rotating tower, the property has been named “one of the most unique homes in Saginaw and maybe even the world.”

The tail — a large curled pipe attached to the side of the house — is another unique addition to the house, and has a pretty important function.

It’s actually a chimney serving the wood-burning fireplace in the family room.

There is also a one-acre creek with a covered bridge that comes with the property, and a barn currently being used as an entertainment building complete with gym equipment and table tennis.

Inside, the 4,692-square-foot (521-square-meter) home is a much more traditional affair, with standard furnishings, five bedrooms and four bathrooms, cathedral-style vaulted ceilings and a walk-in wardrobe.

According to the listing, more than a million dollars has been invested into the unique property.

The original owner was a prominent businessman who owned a trucking company.

The property was built in 1978, with the addition of several rooms and the tower completed in 1988.

There was originally only one driveway with the bridge, but after the barn was hit by lightning and caught on fire one year, the owners built the long driveway with the brick entrance so fire and delivery trucks could access the property.

“I think the tower had a lot to do with him being able to better communicate with his trucks at the time,” said Cris Sears of Century 21 Signature Realty.

“Unless you see the tower, people don’t realize how massive and solid it is – I think you could drive a bus full-speed into it and it would be fine.

“The house has been referred to as the ‘Bird House’ and the ‘Dragon House’ over the years.”
