NEW students at Shenzhen University (SZU) and Shenzhen Technology University (SZTU) departed from their hometowns around the country and arrived in Shenzhen this past weekend to register for the new school year.

This year, SZU has enrolled 12,000 new students for its bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degree programs. The second-phase project of its Lihu campus in Nanshan District has been recently put into use, welcoming over 4,000 new students, including 2,644 freshmen. According to SZU, there are more than 10,000 students studying at the Lihu campus so far.

Given the pandemic, SZU also continued last year’s closed loop management, wherein parents and private vehicles are not allowed to enter the university’s campuses. Meanwhile, all students are required to report their health conditions 14 days before the registration day. The university has also streamlined the registration process for the students’ convenience.

All SZU teachers and staff have also gone through nucleic acid tests at the end of August. SZU said its inoculation rate reached over 95 percent.

In another development, SZTU in Pingshan District welcomed over 3,000 freshmen Saturday. SZTU’s first-phase project has concluded, with aerial corridors connecting different campus buildings available for use.

Each school of SZTU has installed a facial recognition equipment to allow students to register using their faces. Volunteers were seen helping students at Pingshan Railway Station as well as at Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport.

“I didn’t hesitate to choose SZTU because I like Shenzhen very much. After my arrival, I felt everything is beyond my expectation, with its beautiful campus environment and facilities. I am looking forward to this new life,” said Zhang Boya, a freshman student from Xi’an, Shaanxi Province.
