SHENZHEN Nanshan Foreign Language School (Group) Keyuan Primary School in Nanshan District held a ceremony on its campus Friday afternoon to celebrate the country’s 37th Teachers’ Day.

During the ceremony, an English lesson preparation team composed of three foreign teachers was officially established.

“English has always been one of our strong subjects. We have a total of three foreign English teachers now who are responsible for English classes held once a week for each of the six grades’ classes. We hope the team’s founding will help them form a more systematic teaching activities planning and communicate better with our Chinese English teachers,” said Li Bin, principal of Keyuan Primary School.

Jacqueline Acuna, from the Philippines who has been working in the school for nine years, was appointed as the team leader.

“To some people, to be given this enormous responsibility is a burden. Still, for me this is an opportunity to share my knowledge and wisdom with those kids who are longing for more. Our goal is to inspire and help each other develop our self-esteem and to know many things out of the box,” Acuna said.

In addition, Li said that the school has also introduced Chinese opera to help young students learn about Chinese culture.

In this new semester, Keyuan Primary School has welcomed 13 new teachers, with two holding a Ph.D. degree, according to Li.

“Young teachers inject a new positive motivation and bring in new perspectives. We arrange senior teachers to help these new teachers. But we believe the cooperation will be a process where they inspire each other,” said Li.

Student representatives also staged a performance during the ceremony to appreciate teachers for their special contributions.

Established in 2002, Keyuan Primary School belongs to Shenzhen Nanshan Foreign Language School (Group). Its campus covers a floor area of 19,900 square meters, and has 50 classes and 143 teachers and staff members.
