REGULATORS on Friday gathered 10 leading delivery and ride-hailing companies for a meeting to give guidance on better protecting labor rights amid new forms of employment. The meeting, which focused on improving how platform firms distributed incomes and ensured rest periods for workers, was held in conjunction with Ministry of Transport, the State Administration of Market Supervision and the All-China Federation of Trade Unions, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security said in a statement posted on its official WeChat account. The regulators delivered the message to 10 companies, including Meituan, DiDi Global, Alibaba Group’s Ele.me and Tencent Holdings. The meeting was a follow-up to guidelines drafted in July by regulators for food delivery platforms to guarantee their workers’ income was above minimum pay levels. In August, the Ministry of Transport said it was considering setting an upper limit on commission taken by ride-hailing platforms. China has enhanced health-care, jobs and market regulation.
