SHENZHEN Institute of Information Technology (SZIIT) welcomed over 5,000 new students on its campus in Longgang District on Sunday.

This year, according to SZIIT, it has enrolled a total of 5,255 new students, including 4,776 vocational college students and 479 undergraduates under a joint program with Guangdong Polytechnic Normal University (GPNU).

Students were seen presenting their health codes and getting body temperatures checked before entering the campus during the registration day.

“I chose SZIIT because I am interested in majors related to information technology. I am looking forward to my new life in SZIIT in the next three years,” said Su Zhuxian, a new vocational college student who will study computer applications technology in SZIIT.

Since 2018, SZIIT has worked in tandem with GPNU to train application-oriented undergraduate students under a pilot program approved by the national education authority. Admitted students will finish their four-year study in SZIIT.

This year, SZIIT enrolled 350 new students for seven bachelor’s degree programs, an increase of 50 students from a year earlier.

“What SZIIT attracted me most is its education concept to equip students with applied knowledge that can meet the demands of modern industries,” said Zhang Rukai, who has been admitted to SZIIT’s cybersecurity bachelor’s degree program.

Founded in 2002, SZIIT’s campus in Longgang District covers a floor area of 925,000 square meters. It has cooperated with 87 universities and institutions in foreign countries so far and has also received overseas students from countries participating in the Belt and Road Initiative over the years.
