THE Sino-Korean ICT Industry Innovation Conference 2021 was inaugurated in a hotel in Futian District yesterday, attracting five South Korean enterprises and around 80 representatives from Chinese firms and industrial associations.

The three-day event is jointly hosted by China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Shenzhen Municipal Committee (CCPIT Shenzhen) and the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA).

ICTs refer to information and communication technologies, which include 5G technology, big data, cloud computing, Internet of Things (IoT) and artificial intelligence (AI).

The event’s theme, “Sino-Korean in-depth ICT cooperation in the digital era,” intends to facilitate collaboration between Shenzhen and South Korea through on-site ICT forums and online one-on-one matchmaking meetings.

An official with CCPIT Shenzhen said at the opening ceremony that economic and trade exchange for technology between Shenzhen and South Korea keeps rising. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, total trade value for both places reached 156.15 billion yuan (US$24.2 billion) in 2020, an increase of 14.6 percent year on year. The conference works as a bridge where Shenzhen and South Korea’s major ICT enterprises can communicate directly and contribute to the fourth industrial revolution together.

Hong Changpyo, director-general of KOTRA in China, said that Shenzhen is “China’s representative city with advanced IT (information technology) industry, well-established supporting facilities and leading ICT firms.” He also said that South Korea has put significant investment in developing ICTs and believed there will be growing opportunities for South Korea to communicate and cooperate with China in 5G, new energy cars and consumption industries.

Han Jae-heuk, consul general of the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Guangzhou, said the conference is very meaningful for Shenzhen and South Korea’s ICT companies to exchange their insights and R&D achievements. “The event also supports the economic and trade collaborations for the ICT industry at a national level,” Han said.

Representatives of Tencent, Huawei and Hyundai Mobis Innovation Center in Shenzhen also presented their latest products and research results at the opening ceremony yesterday.
