Shenzhen sends 178 athletes to National Games

SHENZHEN has sent 178 athletes to compete at the 14th National Games of China, which opened in Xi’an, Shaanxi Province, yesterday.

Shenzhen athletes participate in 29 sports including track and field, swimming, weightlifting, gymnastics and diving.

The competing local athletes include eight who had taken part in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, namely Tang Muhan (women’s freestyle 4x200m gold medalist), Wang Qianyi (synchronized swimming silver medalist), Liu Hong (women’s 20km race walking bronze medalist), Yu Liyan (women’s butterfly stroke), Ou Yushan (gymnastics), Song Yiling (women’s all-around rock climbing), Liang Meiyu (hockey) and Huang Bokai (pole vault).

The list also includes other elite athletes like Chen Jun’er, 200-meter butterfly stroke champion at the 2021 National Championships; Che Yufei, runner-up in clay pigeon shooting at the 2017 World Youth Championship; and Zhang Xinqiu, champion in shooting at the 2018 Asian Games.

Shenzhen athletes have already won three gold medals for the Guangdong delegation that have been held prior to the opening.

On Sept. 2, Wang Qianyi and her team won Guangdong delegation’s first gold medal in synchronized swimming. On Sept. 6, Ouyang Yu helped Guangdong won a gold in team diving event.

On Sept. 7, We Luxian won a gold medal at the men’s double three-meter board diving and another gold at the men’s double 10-meter platform diving.(Han Ximin)
