My passion
    2021-09-22  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Chen Zixin, Class 7, Senior 2, Shenzhen Foreign Languages School Instructed by Tang Hong

Writing letters has been my passion since I entered high school. Stepping into such a foreign environment, far away from my cozy home and warm friends, I was drowned by a huge sense of isolation.

To my surprise, an activity about writing letters to our friends in other high schools all over Shenzhen in which I could pour forth the nostalgia for those old days inspired me.

As I started writing the letters, an invisible bridge was built between my friends and me, and my heart gradually calmed down.

Weeks later, the reply letters arrived, comforting me with the warmth and love between the lines. I gained much confidence from the activity, and adapted myself to the new environment because of the strong support from the people who were by my side.

Regarded as a sort of relaxation, writing letters lifted me through times of depression and anxiety. I write to my parents and friends regularly now, which is irreplaceable even though phones and WeChat are so convenient and popular nowadays. Some letters are sent, others are not.

However, I am allowed to say something from the bottom of my heart, something that always goes unsaid when people are face to face. And the valuable emotions can be memorized by paper.

It is lucky that I have encountered my passion for writing letters, which convinced me that letters are not out of date in the era of internet.
