Unique ceramic works on display at Banana Jam
    2021-09-23  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Two young U.S. artists, Ryan LaBar and Jeffery Stephen Miller, are exhibiting their ceramic works at an exhibition in Banana Jam.

LaBar fabricates individual and wheel-thrown elements. These, together with other clay parts, are carefully stacked on top of each other to compose a layered and woven structure. Each element counterbalances the position of another and the whole composition reflects the motion and tension of the integrated clay parts. Cool blue celadon bands twist around soft white porcelain rings as brown stoneware rods weave their way throughout.

Miller slices and dices discarded factory decals and integrates fired shards with aluminum waste to create elaborate compositions of color. A series of sculptures on display is a show of extruded ceramic rods that have been individually placed into a ceramic core. These compositions explore the fragility of ceramics along with the meditative process of repetition.
