Young violinist Gao Can will play Saint-Saens’ “Violin Concerto No. 3 in B Minor, Op. 61,” Brahms’ “Scherzo, Op. 4,” Debussy’s “ The Girl With the Flaxen Hair,” as well as a few Chinese folk pieces. Unlike some prodigies who had won top international prizes in childhood, Gao didn’t win his first prize until he was 25 years old when he won the gold medal at the National Violin Competition in 2006. In 2007, he became the youngest associate professor at the Central Conservatory of Music and has been teaching there ever since. He also went to the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music in the United States as a visiting scholar. Gao has collaborated with international orchestras, including the Houston Symphony Orchestra and Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra, and performed at major international events, such as the Verbier Festival in Switzerland and the Beethoven Festival in Germany.
