Hot weather to continue during holiday
    2021-09-29  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

THE hot weather in Shenzhen is expected to continue during the National Day holiday, Shenzhen Meteorological Observatory said.

Shenzhen’s average temperature reached 28.9 degrees Celsius in the first 25 days of September, one degree higher than the same period in previous years.

This figure was the third highest since measurements began, while the number of hot days with temperatures over 33 degrees Celsius in September set a new record of 16 days, according to information released by the observatory.

The scorching weather was the result of a subtropical ridge and two typhoons, Conson and Chanthu, which caused downdraughts, according to meteorologists.

The soaring temperature has caused an increase in power consumption.

The city’s maximum power load since the start of the year hit 20.38 million kilowatts, up 6.5 percent compared to the same period of last year, Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported.

The city’s total electricity consumption came in at 73.952 billion kWh from January to August, up 15.44 percent year on year.

Power use by the city’s secondary and tertiary industries grew by 13.49 percent and 20.90 percent, respectively, according to the Daily report.

At present, the city’s maximum power shortage has exceeded 2.8 million kilowatts, hitting a record high in September.

Shenzhen has issued measures to ensure electricity supply, said the report.
