Zhang wins Faldo Series Shenzhen Championship
    2021-10-08  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

CHINESE golfer Zhang Zhenxian, 15, won the Faldo Series Shenzhen Championship on Oct. 3, finishing on 10 under par (203) following three days of intense competition at Mission Hills Dongguan.

Faldo Series, one of the youth series at Mission Hills, has attracted the attention of young players at home and abroad. Many young players participate in the event every year.

Han Zhishan, general manager of Mission Hills Golf Club, said that the players chose to sharpen their skills during the event over the long holiday, which itself is highly commendable.

Six-time Grand Slam winner Sir Nick Faldo founded the Faldo Asia Series in 2006.

So far, more than 40 Faldo series have been held in more than 30 countries, with more than 7,000 players participating every year.

Among the participants, world-class players such as Yani Tseng from China’s Taiwan and Rory McIlroy from Northern Ireland all emergd from the Faldo series.

Tenniel Chu, vice chairman of Mission Hills Group, said that Mission Hills has cooperated with Sir Faldo for quite a long time. The cooperation between the two sides have been deepening from Sir Faldo’s initial invitation as Mission Hills’ golf courses’ designer to the Faldo Series’ introduction.

“After the Faldo series entered China, a large number of young players from all over the world have experienced tense competitions here, and many successful players have emerged, which makes us very happy,” Chu said.

Faldo Series Shenzhen Championship is a stop of R&A World Amateur Golf Ranking event, which has been strongly supported by R&A, which governs worldwide, outside of the United States and Mexico, with the consent of 156 amateur and professional golf organizations and on behalf of over 30 million golfers in 143 countries.

At the same time, the event is also included in the China Golf Association’s ranking system, and players can obtain points through the event.

Each group’s champion and the first-ranked Chinese player will be invited to participate in the 2021 Faldo Asian Cup finals in Vietnam. (SD News)
